Our House Rules are just like any meeting ground rules: they set the standards of behaviour expected, and are enforceable by the Forum Facilitator.
The Plaetos House Rules are compiled from decades of real experience in running large scale discussions about contentious issues.
They're enforceable. We have guidance for if Facilitators need to enforce the House Rules. More on that here at: What happens if I break the House Rules?
They're like road laws. Participants get to be free within boundaries. This is one of the ways we make Plaetos safe and productive for everyone.
They're universal. No one gets into Plaetos unless they agree to the House Rules - this applies to all participants and Facilitators. All participants have a shared responsibility for ensuring people stick to the rules and can report any comments they think are inappropriate to the Facilitators.
The Plaetos House Rules:
1. I will be respectful towards others
Please treat other people on the platform with respect and courtesy, as you would like them to treat you. Comments using inappropriate language, that are abusive towards other users on the basis of age, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, class, culture, language, race or ethnic origin, and which appear to deliberately provoke arguments, will be removed by the Facilitator.
2. I won't break the law
Please do not post comments that are defamatory, discriminatory or are otherwise unlawful. Raise issues directly with the Facilitator through instant messaging or report a comment if you are uncomfortable raising them in the open forum.
3. I will stay on topic
The discussion will be guided by the Facilitator, who will start new threads as new topics emerge and according to the nature of the discussion. Please stay on topic or, if you really have to have your say on a different topic, message the Facilitator and propose a new topic for discussion.
4. I won't dominate the discussion
Please remember that there are quiet people on the platform who may need to be encouraged to speak up. Everyone's point of view is legitimate, so it's important that people have the chance to air their thoughts fairly and equally.
5. I will respect the confidentiality of these discussions
If you are in an anonymous forum, the issues discussed are to be kept within the confines of the platform. Talking outside of the platform will affect its value to everyone as a safe place to talk.
6. I will think carefully about my comments before posting them
